Below are answers to the questions we hear most often. If you can't find what you need, email support@almanacstudios.co.uk and we'll get back to you within a couple of working days.

Getting started

How do I sign up?

Open Pliny, tap Sign Up, and choose to continue with Apple, Google, or email. After that you'll pick a username and your starting historical figure.

I forgot my password.

On the login screen, tap Forgot Password. We'll email you a reset link. If you signed up with Apple or Google, you don't have a Pliny password — just use the same provider to log back in.

Can I change my username or profile picture?

Yes — from the Profile tab. Tap your username to rename it (subject to availability) or your picture to choose a different historical figure. New figures unlock as you complete topics.

Gems and content

How do gems work?

Gems let you read modules and take quizzes in the free version of Pliny. You get five free gems every day. If you run out, you can watch a short rewarded ad to earn one more, or upgrade to Pliny Premium for unlimited gems.

How do I unlock a new topic or level?

Complete the previous level's quiz with a score of 80% or higher. The next level then opens automatically and the first card auto-expands so you can start straight away.

How do the leaderboards work?

Leaderboards are global and update in real time. You earn points from quizzes, modules completed, perfect-score streaks, and the Grand Trial. Your country flag is shown next to your name on the global board.

Pliny Premium

What does Premium include?

Premium removes ads and gives you unlimited gems, so you can read and quiz as much as you like without daily caps.

How do I cancel Premium?

Premium is an App Store subscription. To cancel: open the iPhone Settings app → tap your name at the top → SubscriptionsPlinyCancel Subscription. Your premium access continues until the end of the current billing period.

How do I request a refund?

Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple, not by us. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find the Pliny purchase, and request a refund.

Account & data

How do I delete my account?

Email support@almanacstudios.co.uk from the address linked to your Pliny account with the subject line "Delete my account". We'll confirm and remove your personal data within 30 days. (See our Privacy Policy for the full data-deletion process.)

How do I turn off notifications?

Open the iPhone Settings app → NotificationsPliny → toggle Allow Notifications off. Or in Pliny itself, go to Profile → Notifications and turn them off there.

How do I opt out of personalised ads?

On first launch we ask permission to track for personalised ads via the iOS App Tracking Transparency prompt. You can change your answer at any time in iPhone SettingsPrivacy & SecurityTracking, or directly under iPhone Settings → Pliny.

Bug reports & feedback

The app crashed or did something unexpected.

Sorry about that. Email support@almanacstudios.co.uk with as much detail as you can — what you were doing, what happened, your phone model, and your iOS version. Crash reports are also sent automatically (anonymised) so we can usually spot and fix common issues.

I spotted a factual error in a lesson.

Please let us know — we take historical accuracy seriously. Inside the app, tap your profile picture, then Send Feedback and choose Factual Error. Or email support@almanacstudios.co.uk.

I'd love a topic that isn't there yet.

We're adding topics regularly. Send suggestions via the in-app feedback form (Suggest a Topic) or email support@almanacstudios.co.uk.
